This 40-hour hybrid program provides comprehensive education and training for healthcare professionals seeking to develop expertise in conducting sexual assault forensic examinations. This program combines asynchronous online modules and live interactive sessions, offering a flexible learning experience.
Participants will gain a strong foundation in the principles and practices of forensic nursing, with a focus on providing compassionate, trauma-informed care to survivors of sexual assault. Key topics include the neurobiology of trauma, evidence collection and preservation, forensic photography, documentation, and advocacy.
The program also emphasizes understanding the medical, psychological, and legal aspects of care for sexual assault survivors, as well as adhering to state and national standards for sexual assault forensic examinations.
Upon completion, participants will be equipped with the skills necessary to perform sexual assault exams, collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, and advocate for survivors' needs while ensuring evidence integrity. This course meets the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) Education Guidelines and is designed to prepare participants for the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) certification.
